For a fascinating insight into the man and the music, his family and friends, development and inspirations, a visit to The Elgar Birthplace Museum is a must. After Elgar's death, the Birthplace Cottage was set up as a Museum by Elgar's daughter Carice, following her father's wishes. In 2000, the Museum was expanded with the opening of the Elgar Centre, to display more treasures from this unique and growing collection. Elgar's desk, gramophone, violin, musical scores and manuscripts, concert programmes, letters, books, family photographs, his cycling maps, golf clubs, microscope, puzzles, and cartoon sketches tell the story of his life from provincial tradesman's son to internationally honoured composer.
